Bright Angel Trailhead
This was a special project where the Grand Canyon National Park Service approached our studio to redesign their trailhead signage. Their existing signs failed to convey the dangers of hiking into the canyon, particularly how much longer the return hike takes. Focused on research and data visualization, this project became some of the most rewarding work I’ve done, with the potential to help save lives.

Clear data and trail information
Turn-around time suggestions
Dynamic icons
Verticality Data Visualization
The Grand Canyon National Park Service needed to find a way to communicate that hiking back up the canyon takes significantly more time and effort than hiking down. This message needed to reach hikers of all nationalities and experience levels.
To convey this effectively, I created an abstract yet intuitive data visualization that maps hiking distances, rest point locations, and elevation changes against estimated hiking times. The emphasis was on visual clarity and accessibility.
The resulting graphic acts as an essential guide, helping hikers of all abilities understand the true exertion and time required to descend and return safely on this challenging trail.
Lack of iconography
Understated elevation information
Cluttered text
